Fresno Christian First-Baseman Commits To Gordon Baseball

Gordon College Baseball would like to announce the recent commitment of Trevor York for the fall of 2012.

The son of Lennox and Shelley York of Clovis, Calif., Trevor is a first-baseman from Fresno Christian High School. As a junior last spring, York finished the season with a batting average of .400 with four homeruns and 20 RBI.

“I am coming to Gordon because it is one of the few colleges that has a very strong Christian base while incorporating a rigorous academic program,” said York of his recent commitment. “I don't only want to receive a higher education but I want to learn how to be a steward of this world and I believe Gordon is the best place for me at this time.”

The head coach of the Scots, John Rypel, had this to say about adding Trevor to the program next fall: “Trevor has a very bright future as a hitter in our program. He has a very smooth left-handed swing and possesses the ability to leave the yard to all fields. I think he immediately jumps into the competition to start at first-base and I am looking forward to watching several quality candidates compete for the position. I think our coaching staff did a great job with this recruiting class to try to fill the void that will be left with the graduation of Eric Wolak. The entire Gordon College baseball family is looking forward to Trevor’s arrival next fall.”

York will be joining a Gordon program that is currently gearing up to kick-off the 2012 campaign next week versus MIT. The Scots are returning their top five hitters from last season and welcomed in the largest recruiting class in program history this fall.
