Linn, Scavo Named Gordon's Athletes Of The Year

As announced by Athletic Director Jonathan Tymann and voted upon by members of the athletic department, senior men's soccer defender Micah Linn (Germantown, Tenn.) and junior women's soccer midfielder Karina Scavo (Mt. Sinai, N.Y.) have been named Gordon's Male and Female Athlete of the Year, respectively, for their efforts on the pitch this past season.

A co-captain to the Fighting Scots' squad this year, Linn helped lead the team to a 6-1-2 regular season Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) finish and second seed in the postseason tournament. He anchored a back line that was ranked third in shutouts among CCC programs (6), fifth in goals against average (1.24), and was in the top 25 percent of NCAA Division III programs in shutout percentage (0.38) during the regular season. At the conclusion of the season, the senior standout was named the CCC Co-Defensive Player of the Year and an All-CCC First Team selection.

In her second season with the Scots, Scavo once again established herself as a formidable force in the midfield, tallying 17 points off seven goals and three assists as the Scots' second-leading scorer. Earning an All-CCC First Team spot for the second consecutive year, she was also selected to the New England Women's Intercollegiate Soccer Assocation (NEWISA) All-New England Division III First Team, the ECAC DIII Women’s Soccer New England All-Star Second Team, and the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) All-New England Third Team.

"Each year this award is given to student-athletes who not only excel at their particular sport but who exhibit the leadership and character we desire from all of our student-athletes," said Tymann. "Micah and Karina are shining examples of how to be excellent in both capacities and are deserving recipients of this honor."
