Men's Soccer: Scots Lead Clinic For North Shore Christian School

On Saturday, May 5, the Gordon College Men's Soccer team spent several hours helping lead a soccer clinic for over 20 middle schoolers at the North Shore Christian School in Lynn, Mass. The clinic was set up by current goalkeeper coach, Todd McMillan, who is also a history teacher at NSCS.

Focusing primarily on teaching fundamentals like passing and dribbling, the Scots helped each participant learn basic principles and competition through a series of games and drills.

Said Head Coach Johnny Whallon, "Our guys did a great job making it a fun experience for the kids and it was a lot of fun watching the kids and players interacting with each other. The kids were high energy, too, which contributed to the excitement of the morning. As a program, we want to have an impact in the community and be more than just a soccer team. It is a privilege to have a bunch of young kids look up to us and the event was a meaningful experience for my team."

With this mentoring event, the Scots conclude their busy spring season which consisted of 15 practice dates and one competition together with
an alumni game that welcomed 100 people back to campus (players and families), an ID Camp for recruits, and two community outreach events.

The team resumes training in August and begins its regular season at home on Saturday, September 1st. Following their opener, the men will travel to play the 2011 NCAA National Champion, Ohio Wesleyan University, on Saturday, September 8.
