Gordon Runners Gear Up for CCC Championship Race

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. The University of New England will be the host of the 2013 Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Men's and Women's Cross Country Championships on Saturday, November 2. The championship meet will take place at Rotary Park in Biddeford, Maine with the women's race (6K) commencing at 12:00 p.m. followed by the men's race (8K) at 1:00 p.m.

UNE will be joined by squads from Curry College, Eastern Nazarene College, Endicott College, Gordon College, Nichols College, Roger Williams University, Salve Regina University, and Western New England in the run for the 2013 conference crowns.

The Roger Williams men claimed their 12th consecutive title a season ago with 22 points, topping the University of New England (48) for the victory. The University of New England women captured the 2012 team championship with 38 points, edging Salve Regina (2011 Champion) by nine points for the top spot.

Saturday's races will serve as a final tune up before the ECAC Championships, which will be hosted by Roger Williams on Saturday, November 9, and the NCAA Division III New England Regional Championships which will be hosted by Southern Maine on Saturday, November 16. Teams and runners are ultimately hoping to qualify for the NCAA Division III Championships scheduled for Saturday, November 23 in Hanover, Indianapolis.

The Scots have faired well against CCC competition this season, with freshman Neal Hulstein (Ellington, Conn.) leading the charge. Gordon has had three weeks to prepare for the championship meet in hopes that several individuals will qualify for the regional and national races later in the month.
