Hulstein Leads Scots to Fourth-Place Finish in Conference Meet

BIDDEFORD, Maine - Roger Williams captured the team championship today at the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Championships that were held at Rotary Park in Biddeford, Maine. This is the Hawks 13th consecutive CCC Men's Cross Country title.
 
Roger Williams junior Jack Ferguson bested the entire field to earn runner of the year honors with an 8K time of 26:25.
 
All-CCC recognition was given to the top-10 finishers, while Runner of the Year honors is awarded to the top finisher, and Rookie of the Year to the top "freshman" runner.
 
Roger Williams junior Jack Dunleavy finished 14 ticks behind Ferguson with a time of 26:39, while Endicott freshman Noah Mondello finished third with a time of 26:41. Mondello also earned the rookie of the year award.
 
Roger Williams sophomore Doug Sasso finished fourth with a time of 26:48, while Salve Regina sophomore Sean Hughes finished just four ticks behind with a time of 26:53 for fifth place, and Roger Williams sophomore Chris Busby took sixth with a 27:04 finish.
 
Rounding out the top-10 CCC Championship Runners for All-CCC recognition were Gordon freshman Neal Hulstein (Ellington, Conn.) (27:14), University of New England sophomore Cameron Vallie (27:15), Roger Williams freshman Ian Fullerton (27:18), and University of New England freshman Paul Mangofico (27:28).
 
Hulstein continued his impressive fall with the seventh-place finish, but was just edged out by Endicott freshman Mondello for Rookie of the Year honors. The two talented freshmen split Rookie of the Week awards for a majority of the season on the men's side.
 
Wes Nelson (Charlton, Mass.) and Andrew Manning (Amman, Jordan) finished second and third for the Scots, as they have for much of 2013. Nelson finished 21st overall with a time of 28:31.40, while Manning crossed the line six spots later 26 seconds after Nelson.
 
Jed Meyers (Medford, N.J.) and Liam Adams (Woodstock, Conn.) finished back-to-back in 42nd and 43rd place to round out the scoring for the Scots.
 
Gordon earned the conference's team sportsmanship award while the coach of the year honor went to Roger Williams head coach Sean Livingston.
 
Next up for the Scots is the ECAC Championship next Saturday at 11 a.m.
