BIDDEFORD, Maine - University of New England captured the team championship today at the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Championships that were held at Rotary Park in Biddeford, Maine. This is the Nor'easters second consecutive title.
Roger Williams junior Hannah Zydanowicz bested the entire field to earn runner of the year honors with a 6K time of 23:15.0. Zydanowicz also earned the runner of the year award.
All-CCC recognition was given to the top-10 finishers, while Runner of the Year honors is awarded to the top finisher, and Rookie of the Year to the top "freshman" runner.
Endicott junior Erin Haynes came in second with a time of 24:17. It was Salve Regina freshman Victoria Varone who finished third with a time of 24:32 good for rookie of the year honors. Roger Williams junior Jamie Wandzilak and UNE freshman Tiana Thomas rounded out the top five with times of 24:44 and 25:00, respectively.
Leanne Beedle was the first Gordon runner to cross the finish line, finishing 17
th overall with a time of 26:18.50. Jessica Fittro, Marybeth Gray and Hannah Fisher were all within striking distance of their leading runner, crossing the finishing line in 22
nd, 25
th and 31
st places respectively.
Yochabel Atunes finished in 49
th place to round out the scoring for the Scots harriers.
The Fighting Scots earned the conference's team sportsmanship award while the coach of the year honor went to UNE head coach Ron Ouellette.
