Women's XC Gets Top-Five Finish in Conference Meet

WENHAM, Mass.—Junior Mariah Geiger (Londonderry, N.H.) was the top Fighting Scots finisher in 18th place to send Gordon to a fifth-place finish on a cold, rainy Saturday.  University of New England captured the team championship at the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Championships that were held on Gordon's soggy trails.
 
The Nor'easters Brittney Sorbello earned top finisher honors with a 5K time of 23:55. Sorbello also earned the Runner of the Year award.
 
All-CCC recognition was given to the top-10 finishers, while Runner of the Year honors is awarded to the top finisher, and Rookie of the Year to the top "freshman" runner.
 
Roger Williams's senior Hannah Zydanowicz came in second with a time of 23:55, while University of New England sophomore Tiana Thomas finished third with a time of 23:57.
 
University of New England junior Lexi Basiliere finished fourth with a time of 23:58, while freshman teammate Angel Waters finished just six ticks behind with a time of 24:04 for fifth place earning Rookie of the Year honors. Endicott senior Erin Haynes took sixth with a 24:18 finish.
 
Rounding out the top-10 CCC Championship Runners for All-CCC recognition were Salve Regina junior Aubrey Palmquist (24:34), Salve Regina sophomore Amy Irving (24:54), Roger Williams senior Jamie Wandzilak (24:56), and Western New England freshman Kirsten White (25:00).
 
Following Geiger, Louisa Dodds (Hillsdale, N.Y.) was the second Scot to cross the finish line in 26:18, good enough for 28th place. Sophomore Emma Gray (Blue Mountain Lake, N.Y.) wasn't far behind in 36th with a time of 26:34. Jessie Fittro (Schenectady, N.Y.) was next, coming in 47th place and senior Caitlin Holahan (Chester, N.Y.) picked up the final points for the Scots in 52nd. The Fighting Scots missed talented freshman Kasey Mann (Merrimac, N.Y.) who missed competition due to injury.
 
The Gordon ladies earned the conference's team Sportsmanship Award while the Coach of the Year honor went to University of New England head coach Ron Ouellette.
 
The Senior Scholar-Athlete award went to Western New England University senior Erica Lozy. Lozy is a psychology major who holds a 3.88 grade point average.
