SPRINGFIELD, Mass.—Winning has not gotten old for junior Damon Kilgore (Londonderry, N.H.), but for the second straight week he was tested on the course in a victory at the Golden Bear Invitational. Angie Epplett (Uxbridge, Mass.) kept her solid season going as well, crossing the finish line first for the Scots for the fifth time on the year.
The Gordon women finished 10th overall, while the men turned in an 11th place performance out of 21 eligible teams. UNE dominated the team competition as they have for much of the season, as five of the first six runners were Nor'easters. Commonwealth Coast Conference rivals Roger Williams, Endicott and Western New England also finished inside the top 10 in the team rankings. SUNY Delhi won the men's event with 34 points, beating second-place UNE by 81 points.
Epplett carried the Scots with a 21st-place finish, crossing the end line in a time of 20:34. Junior Louisa Dodds (Hillsdale, N.Y.), just 18 seconds behind her rookie teammate for 29th overall. A little over a minute later, Julia Drewicke (San Francisco, Calif.) finished in 80th with sophomore Elizabeth Johnson (Ithaca, N.Y.) just a few moments behind her in 95th. Cassie McCoumb (Centennial, Colo.) rounded out the scoring with a finish in 23:08.
Kilgore ran another solid race with a 5:09 pace, but faced some close competition for the second week in a row. Meet champion SUNY Delhi was represented by Kobie Lane in second place, just 16 ticks behind the Gordon junior.
Jesse Edwards (Antrim, N.H.) was Gordon's second best runner on the day, finishing in a flurry of Scots, in 58th place. Sophomore Daniel McCutcheon (Smithfield, R.I.) was just a few spots behind him in 61st with a time of 29:29, beating teammate Dan Simonds (Bristol, R.I.) in a sprint by a second. Chandler Hansen (Easton, N.Y.) was the final Scot to score on the day in a competition men's race.
The Fighting Scots have two final weeks of training before the CCC Championship on the same course they saw Saturday.
