The Gordon Club Ice Hockey coaching staff has selected
Kyle Hayes (Sr./North Easton, Mass.),
Luke Tremblay (So./Arlington, Mass.), and
Chris Thanopoulos (So./Montreal, Quebec) as captains for the 2016-17 season. Hayes will wear the sole "C" on the team, while Tremblay and Thanopoulos will both be given the role of alternate captain.
Since joining the program in 2014, Hayes has been a prolific scorer and contributor to the team, tallying 50 goals and 43 assists in 44 games over a two-year span. He was also a major player in the effort to secure Gordon's membership in the ACHA this past year. Prior to Gordon, Hayes played at Wheaton College (Ill.) for one season and at Oliver Ames High School. He is currently studying biology and chemistry and hopes to be a dentist in the future.
Tremblay joined the Scots' squad last season and immediately made his presence felt. Playing both defense and goaltender, Tremblay notched one goal and eight assists and played lock-down defense in the first eight games of the season. For the remainder of the regular season and the entirety of the postseason, Tremblay assumed his post in net with authority and consistently kept the Fighting Scots in games. In addition to his contributions on the ice, he was also a reliable member of the team, always willing to sacrifice for or offer encouragement to his teammates.
Tremblay played previously at Hebron Academy and Arlington High School as well as for the Northern Junior Cyclones of the Eastern Hockey League. Though not officially declared, he is interested in pursuing degrees in marketing and finance.
Thanopoulos also joined the Fighting Scots for the 2015-16 campaign. Playing both forward and defense, he was a difference-maker on the ice, recording 20 goals and five assists in 18 games while helping anchor the Scots' defense. Aside from the game, Thanopoulous was an approachable and relatable teammate, ready to joke around when appropriate but stepping up into leadership when needed.
In high school, Thanopoulos played for Kuper Academy and Hebron Academy. He is currently studying kinesiology and aspires to work in the NHL as a physical therapist and strength and conditioning coach.
