WENHAM, Mass.—There isn't much Damon Kilgore (Londonderry, N.H.) has not done in his three seasons at Gordon, but he checked off another box in a dominant performance at the 45th Annual Pop Crowell Invitational on Saturday morning. Kilgore bested the competition by nearly three minutes to help Gordon to a third place finish. Gordon's Angie Epplett (Uxbridge, Mass.) ran a career best 19:35 to spur on a second-place finish for the Fighting Scot women.
The University of New England took home the team trophy in both the men's and women's events. On the women's side, UNE was as sharp as ever with all five point receivers coming inside the top 10. The Nor'easters talented upperclassmen trio of Brittney Sorbello, Tiana Thomas and Amanda MacDonald came 1-2-3 to pace the effort. UNE finished with 20 total points. On the men's side, UNE was slightly less dominant with four inside the top 10 as the Nor'easters scored 36 points overall.
Kilgore's goal heading into the season was finishing an 8K with a pace under five minutes per mile and the talented junior crossed that off his list on Saturday. Gordon's top runner crossed the finish line in a time of 24:39, almost a full three minutes ahead of Nichols' Brendan Coughlin. Daniel McCutcheon (Smithfield, R.I.) also enjoyed running on his home course, posting a season-high 10th-place finish in a time of 28:24.
Chandler Hansen (Easton, N.Y.) and Jesse Edwards (Antrim, N.H.) finished back-to-back in 23rd and 24th, while Sebastian Toro (Queens, N.Y.) rounded out Gordon's scoring in 25th.
Epplett's personal best placed her in seventh overall, while teammate Louisa Dodds (Hillsdale, N.Y.) crossed the line in 15th to help Gordon's cause. Julia Drewicke (San Francisco, Calif.) averaged a 6:52 pace over the 3.1 mile course as Gordon's third best runner. Hanna Laue (Redlands, Calif.) and Elizabeth Johnson completed the Scots' scoring for the day to give them their best finish of the season.
Both Gordon teams are back on the course in two weeks when they travel to the New York border to race in the James Earley Invitational at Westfield State on October 8.
