After four seasons at the helm of Gordon College Men's Soccer, Head Coach
Derek Potteiger has accepted the position of head coach at Lee University in Cleveland, Tennessee.
Lee, a Christian liberal arts institution, is a member of the Gulf South Conference (GSC) and NCAA Division II. Potteiger will inherit a program that went 9-7-2 overall and finished 5
th in the GSC in 2016.
Potteiger held the reputation of being an outstanding recruiter as an assistant at the Naval Academy prior to taking over at Gordon and carried that with him to the North Shore. He and his staff brought several solid classes to the Fighting Scots' program, immediately turning Gordon into a Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) and NCAA contender.
Under his tutelage, Gordon was consistently ranked regionally by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) and NCAA and was among the nation's leaders in several statistical categories. In four years, the Scots amassed an impressive 61-18-11 overall record while claiming a CCC championship title, two NCAA tournament wins, and setting a program record for wins in a season with 19 in 2013. Named the CCC Coach of the Year for his efforts in 2013, Potteiger coached numerous players to regional and national recognition and a total of 20 different players to All-CCC honors.
"We are very grateful to Derek for the foundation and culture he built for Gordon Men's Soccer," said Athletic Director
Jonathan Tymann. "This program has taken great strides under his care and we look forward to what the future has in store as the torch is passed to a new coach."
