Five Scots Claim Conference Awards

CNE RELEASE

As announced by the Conference of New England (CNE) today, Gordon College Men's Soccer's Noah Martin, Benji Wright, Benny Simpson, Luke Lindas, and Gilbert Daru have been honored for their play over this season. Alex Diaz earned a spot on the Inaugural Community Service Team.

Voting for the All-Conference Teams and major awards was conducted by CNE head men's soccer coaches after the conclusion of the regular season.

Martin's impact was felt all over the field earning him All-CNE Second Team. The strong tackling defensive mid was a force to be reckoned with as the Fighting Scots tallied five clean sheets. The senior also excelled in creating scoring opportunities as he consistently made dangerous runs and recorded three assists. This is the third time Martin has been recognized by the conference.

Former Offensive Player of the Year Wright claimed All-CNE Third Team with his ability to quickly take over games. The senior generated 21 shots and scored four goals. One of the goals came as the equalizer in the final minutes against Western New England. This marks the third time Wright has been recognized by the conference.

Simpson's anticipation and field view landed him on the All-CNE Third Team. Simpson's ability to find teammates in scoring positions shined as he recorded four assists (tied for fifth best in the conference). The crafty mid also excelled in controlling possession of the ball.

Lindas locked in a spot on the All-CNE Third team. The sophomore held a strong back line winning tackles while also contributing on the offensive half. In the win against Roger Williams, Lindas scored two goals, one of which was the game-winner in the final ten minutes.

Daru earned All-CNE Third Team as freshman. The all-around player notched four assists (tied for fifth best in the conference) putting pressure on opposing defenses. Daru added to his versatility scoring three goals.

The Fighting Scots hold the CNE No. 6 seed and will travel to the No. 3 Western New England Golden Bears for their match at 2 p.m. tomorrow, November 2.
