Gordon senior Sam Johnson (Chatham, Mass) took home the first Commonwealth Coast Conference Player of the Week award after posting three double-doubles during the Fighting Scots' 2-1 week. Johnson was a monster on the boards in all three games, never collecting fewer than 14 as the Scots lone loss came in the championship game of the North Country Invitational to host Clarkson.

Gordon posted back-to-back victories by double digits to open the season and Johnson's work ethic was a huge factor. He finished just one rebound of his career high with 22 boards in a season-opening win against a scrappy Elms squad before adding an effective 19 points and 14 rebounds in a big win over SUNY-Potsdam. The forward had a double-double in just the second half alone as Gordon mounted a furious comeback to win going away.

Johnson continued his double-double streak in Gordon's single loss to begin the year, scoring 10 points and adding another solid rebounding performance with 17 caroms.

He has five straight double-doubles dating back to last season and looks to lead the conference in the category for the second season in a row.
