Freshman cross country runner Andrew Swanson (Lexington, Mass.) has been named Gordon's Athlete of the Week for his standout performances for the Fighting Scots in the opening meets of the 2012 season.

In Gordon's season-opening meet at the University of New England Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 8, Swanson had a banner day on the 8000m trail, finishing first out of all Scots and 11th of 104 runners with a 30:21 result. His efforts helped lead the Scots to a fourth place team finish with a 2:39.39 time overall. 

This past weekend at the UMass Dartmouth Invitational, he was once again the top finisher for the Scots, coming in 138th of 293 runners on the 8k course with a 27:40 time. 

Swanson and the rest of the Scots are on the road on Saturday, Sept. 22 for a race at Elms College before hosting the annual Pop Crowell Invitational on Sept. 29.
