Women's Soccer Blanks Colby-Sawyer 2-0

WENHAM, MA. -- First half goals by Kelly Donlan and Katie Thompson and four saves by goalkeeper Kari Christensen led the way for Gordon as the Scots blanked Colby-Sawyer College, 2-0. The win moves Gordon to 4-4-1 in The Commonwealth Coast Conference and 8-5-1 overall. Colby-Sawyer drops to 3-5-1 in the league and 4-9-1 overall.

The Scots carried the play early, dominating possession of the ball and generating good offensive opportunities. Then in the 33rd minute they finally broke through when Karina Scavo ripped a shot on net off a Hala Coker corner kick. Kelly Donlan used her head to deflect the ball into the back of the net, staking Gordon to a 1-0 lead. It was Donlan's third goal of the season and second in two games, while Scavo picked up her seventh assist of the season.

The Scots scored again on another corner kick with less than three minutes to go in the half when Katie Thompson recovered a loose ball in the goal mouth and drove a shot past Chargers' goalkeeper, Shalyn Spencer, to put Gordon up 2-0 at the break.

That lead stood up the rest of the way as Colby-Sawyer struggled to mount an offensive attack. Adrienne Bender was a bright spot for the Chargers as she took five of her team's eight shots. Spencer made six saves in the net for Colby-Sawyer as Gordon outshot Colby-Sawyer 20-8 overall.

The Scots will travel to Springfield, Mass. on Saturday to take on Western New England at 1:30P.M. Colby-Sawyer will play at Nichols on Saturday at 2:00P.M.
