WENHAM, MA. -- Gordon honored their six seniors on Tuesday afternoon and scored 26 seconds into the match, en route to a 6-0 victory over visiting Anna Maria. With the victory Gordon moves to 9-6-1 and is 5-5-1 in The Commonwealth Coast Conference. Anna Maria drops to 0-14-2 and is 0-10-1 in league action.
Before the match began seniors Shay Gestal (Albany, VT), Kelly Donlan (Burlington, CT), Katie Knaus (Kensington, CT), Meghan Schooley (Thomaston, ME), Kaelyn McBride (Dar-es-Salaam, Tanzania), and Julia Stevenson (Hampton Falls, N.H.) were honored.
Once the match started, there was little drama as Karina Scavo put Gordon on the board just 26 seconds in. Scavo took a cross from Caitlin Nedde and used her head to find the back of the net, staking Gordon to a 1-0 lead.
In the 13th minute, McBride scored her first goal of the season. Hala Coker's corner kick was headed by Knaus to McBridge who used her head to bang in the second goal of the match.
Freshman Kendra Woudenberg scored her first collegiate goal in the 14th minute and Kelly Donlan scored her fourth goal of the season to put Gordon up 4-0 before 20 minutes were gone. The Scots took that lead into the break having outshot Anna Maria 25-1 in the first half.
Shay Gestal was the star of the second half as the senior scored twice in the late stages of the match for the first two goals of her collegiate career. Both goals came on terrific passes, the first from Rachael Bailey and the second from Angela Munoz.
Keri Christensen and Abby McManus split time in net for Gordon, posting fours saves for the shutout. Anna Maria's Tabitha Ruggeri had a busy day in net and made 14 saves.
Gordon will play at New England College in Henniker, N.H. at 12P.M. on Saturday. Anna Maria will play at Wentworth at 3:00P.M. on Saturday.
