Donlan Leads Women's Soccer Past NEC, 1-0

HENNIKER, N.H.—Gordon College’s Kelly Donlan (Burlington, CT) netted the lone goal of the afternoon leading the Scots past the New England College Pilgrims 1-0 in women’s soccer action Saturday afternoon.

With the win the Scots improve to 10-6-1 overall and 6-5-1 in conference play. The loss drops the Pilgrims to 6-11-1 on the season and 3-8-1 in the conference.

Gordon got on the board early as Donlan netted her fifth goal of the season putting in a cross off a free kick from Hala Coker (East Falmouth, MA) just 7:03 into the game.

The Pilgrims would have their best scoring opportunity in the 15th minute as Veronica Hytner (St. James, NY) rebounded in a blocked shot but Scots’ keeper Kari Christensen (Standish, ME) came up with the save.

Gordon continued to apply offensive pressure in the second half of play but the Pilgrim defense turned away several opportunities and NEC keeper Erin Palma (Saratoga Springs, NY) came up with eight saves keeping the Scots off the board.

The Scots finished the afternoon out shooting the Pilgrims 33-7.

Picking up the shutout win in goal for Gordon was Kari Christensen who finished the day with two saves. Seeing the bulk of the time in net for NEC was Palma who finished with eight saves. NEC’s Kassandra Flint (Sherwood, OR) also saw time in net for the Pilgrims finishing with four saves.

New England College returns to action on Wednesday, Oct. 27 when they travel to take on conference opponent Endicott College. Gordon College will travel to take on conference foe Salve Regina University.
