Salem, MA—On Thursday night at Alumni Field the Salem State University Vikings held off the Fighting Scots of Gordon College, 1-0, on a goal from Kaitlyn Quigley in the 15th minute.
Quigley (Santa Monica, Calif.) scored her first goal of the year on an assist from junior Lauren Kilduff (Walpole, Mass.), taking her shot from far out and sailing it over Gordon's Kari Christensen (So./Standish, Maine) into the back of the net.
The victory is Salem State's second in a row and raises their overall record to 3-2-1. The loss marks Gordon's second of the year, dropping them to 4-2 overall.
The Vikings had seven shots, six of which were on goal, while the Fighting Scots took eight shots, four on goal, while Gordon held the advantage in corner kicks, 6-1.
Both teams return to action on Saturday September 17, Salem hosting conference opponent Fitchburg State at 12:00p.m., while Gordon will take on its conference foe, Western New England, also at 12:00p.m.
