Women's Soccer Routs USM 4-1 Behind Nedde Hat Trick

WENHAM, MA. -- Gordon rolled to their second win of the young season, 4-1 over the University of Southern Maine. Sophomore midfielder Caitlin Nedde (Colchester, VT) scored 3 goals to lead the Scots attack.

Gordon had two great chances to score early on corner kicks from Karina Scavo but were unable to convert. After threatening multiple times, Nedde got the Scots on the board in the 30th minute when she captured a well place cross from Kelly Donlan and put the ball past USM goalkeeper Kat Rothe. Only 3 minutes later, Nedde got loose again, taking a pass from Scavo and ripping a shot to the far left post.

Gordon continued to dominate play for the remainder of the half and took a 2-0 lead into the break. In the 54th minute, Nedde put the game away as she broke past the Huskie defense down the right wing and blasted a shot past Rothe.

USM got on the board only moments later when Tara Moore collected a corner kick and slammed home a shot from close range.

With Gordon leading 3-1, Elisabeth Cheesman scored the final goal of the game on a tremendous individual effort. Cheesman collected the ball from about 25 yards out and hit a curling shot into the upper left hand corner for the final tally of the match.

Gordon outshot USM 22-11. Nedde had 8 shots, while Scavo took 5 shots. First year player Kendra Woudenberg was a force on offense, as was senior Kaelyn McBride.

Gordon moves to 2-0 on the season and will travel to face Worcester Polytechnic Institute at 4PM on Tuesday.
