Box Score
After a brief ceremony to honor the team's six seniors in their final home match, the Fighting Scots went on to bookend the day with another positive note, claiming a 2-1 win over non-conference Suffolk to close out the regular season with a victory and improve to 10-7 overall on the year.
The host Scots found themselves at a relatively early deficit after the Rams' Leslie Hayden (Sr./Ross, Calif.) put home a headed flick assist from Monica Wolf (So./Ballston Lake, N.Y.) in the 22nd minute for the 1-0 lead. That lead was short-lived, however, as Gordon forward
Caitlin Nedde (Jr./Colchester, Vt.) finished off a ball from
Karina Scavo (Jr./Mt. Sinai, N.Y.) just two minutes later to equalize the game at 1-1.
Despite both teams creating several scoring opportunities in the remaining minutes of the first and on into the second half, the score remained deadlocked until late in the game when Scavo knocked in from close range a Nedde pass to give the Scots the go-ahead goal with seven minutes to play. Gordon would hold that score thanks in part to an outstanding diving save from keeper
Kari Christensen (So./Standish, Maine) in the waning minutes to preserve the one-goal win.
Christensen rounded out the day with seven saves, while Suffolk netminder Melissa Brouillette (Fr./Shelton, Conn.) had an impressive day between the pipes, turning away 12 in the losing effort.
The Scots, who earned the No. 5 seed in the upcoming CCC tournament, will travel to face the fourth-seeded Gulls of Endicott College on Saturday, October 29 in quarterfinal action.
