Scots Edged By UNE In Extra Time, 2-1

Box Score
Hosting the Nor'easters of the University of New England today in a Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) tilt, the Fighting Scots were edged 2-1 in extra time to move to 6-5 overall, 3-1 in conference.

With both teams battling for possession in slick conditions after bouts of early-game rain, it was UNE that notched the first tally of the day when Alice Read (Sr./Auburn, Maine) knocked home a cross from Sarah Richardson (Sr./Rochester, N.H.) in the 27th minute to give the Nor'easters the 1-0 lead. That lead would hold throughout the remainder of the first half and on into the second until Gordon's Karina Scavo (Jr./Mount Sinai, N.Y.) collected a pass from Caitlin Nedde (Jr./Colchester, Vt.) and ripped the equalizer through UNE keeper Jess Woodworth (Sr./Concord, N.H.) in the 58th minute. Despite several good chances from both teams in the waning minutes of regulation, that 1-1 draw held through 90 minutes, forcing the game into golden goal extra time.

Though the Scots threatened with a good scoring opportunity off a corner kick late in the first overtime, that would be as close as they would get to the win as UNE's Margaret Palmer (Fr./Scarborough, Maine) settled a ball on the 18 in the fifth minute of the second overtime and buried a high driven shot overtop Gordon keeper Kari Christensen (So./Standish, Maine) for the win.

Christensen ended the day with six saves while Woodworth turned away four in the winning effort for UNE.

The Fighting Scots return to play on Saturday, October 8 as they host the CCC's Salve Regina on Gordon's Homecoming at 12:00p.m. The Nor'easters, now 8-1-2 overall on the season, will host Western New England on the same day at 12:00p.m.
