Scots Use Late Rally To Upend Lyndon State, 47-41

Box Score

On day two of their Winter Classic, the Fighting Scots used a late come-from-behind rally to upend the Hornets of Lyndon State, 47-41, and move to 2-1 overall on the season.

With the score within two in the opening eight minutes of play, Lyndon began to pull away behind standout play from Donna Lawson (Jr./Irasburg, Vt.) to establish an eight-point lead with just over seven minutes to go in the half. Despite concerted effort from the Scots to battle back and close the gap, Lyndon maintained the lead and held a five-point advantage at the midway point.

The Scots continued to chip away at their guests' lead, coming within one with 13 minutes to play after Catey Marshall (Sr./St. Johnsbury, Vt.) buried a solo jumper in the paint to make it 26-25. Still unwilling to relinquish control, Lyndon stretched the lead once again to six points following a free throw from Lawson with just under eight minutes left in regulation. From there, however, the Scots went on a 9-3 run behind a pair of jumpers from Aly Towle (Fr./Rochester, N.H.), a single bucket from Leanna Tallamy (Wantage, N.J.), and a three-pointer from Lauren Kranyak (So./Locust Grove, Va.) to tie the game at 34-34 just over the three minute mark.

Though the game stayed close in the waning minutes, the Scots buckled down on the defensive end and were clutch from the line down the stretch to ice the six-point win.

Leading the charge for Gordon was Tallamy who recorded a double-double on the day with 13 points and 15 rebounds, while Towle and Marshall finished with nine points apiece and Kranyak tallied seven points and five boards in the winning effort.

Naomi White (Sr./Danville, Vt.) and Lawson each recorded double-doubles for the Hornets, White posting 18 points, 12 rebounds and Lawson contributing 14 points, 10 rebounds in the loss, which moves Lyndon to 1-1 overall on the season.

The Scots return to play on Tuesday, November 22 when they host Pine Manor in non-conference action at 6:00p.m. Lyndon has nearly a two-week respite before returning to the court on Thursday, December 1 at Colby-Sawyer for a 7:30p.m. start.
