Scots Fall To WNE, 63-52, In CCC Opener

Box Score
Playing host to the Golden Bears of Western New England tonight in Gordon's Bennett Athletic Center, the Fighting Scots were felled by their guests in their Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) opener, 63-52, to move to 3-2 overall and 0-1 in conference on the year.

With the score remaining tight throughout the opening eight minutes of play, Western New England began to pull away in the 12th minute, using an 11-2 run over the next seven minutes to establish a 28-17 lead. Though Clancey Adams (So./Simsbury, Conn.) would bury a three and Leanna Tallamy (Fr./Wantage, N.J.) would hit an outside jumper to close the gap, Western New England maintained its lead to take an eight-point lead into the locker room at the break.

Adams continued her hot streak from behind the arc into the second, netting a three to open the half to make it 32-27. The Golden Bears answered with an offensive hot streak of their own, however, behind standout play from Sam McCann (Fr./Warren, Mass.) who led the way in creating a 15-point lead with 13 minutes and change left in regulation. That lead proved insurmountable for the Scots, as WNE was solid from the stripe down the stretch to seal the 11-point win.

Western New England, now standing at 2-2 overall and 1-0 in the CCC, finished the night having shot an impressive 89 percent from the line. McCann led her team with a 15-point, eight-rebound effort, while teammate Ali Pessolano (So./Hampton, Mass.) contributed 11 points and Sarah Proper (Sr./Coxsackie, N.Y.) and Elena Radzikowski (Jr./Medway, Mass.) each netted 10.

Gordon was led by Tallamy who notched 20 points and five boards, while Aly Towle (Fr./Rochester, N.H.) and Lauren Kranyak (So./Locust Grove, Va.) each posted seven points in the loss.

The Scots take to the road on Saturday, December 3 for their next CCC matchup at Curry College. Game time is set for 1:00p.m. Western New England will host CCC foe Nichols College on the same day at 1:00p.m.
