The Fighting Scots improved to 6-3 overall, 3-1 in The Commonwealth Coast Conference today with a commanding 16-8 win over the visiting Pilgrims of New England College.
The Scots established a hefty early lead after scoring seven unanswered goals in the first 20 minutes of play. NEC finally broke its silence on an unassisted goal by Amanda Kennedy (Sr., Tewksbury, Mass.) at the 10:28 mark, to which the Scots responded with a pair of back-to-back goals goals, the first from Hala Coker (Jr., East Falmouth, Mass.) on a Stephanie Fitzgerald (Fr., Groveland, MAss.) assist and the second on a Coker to Fitzerald connection. Kennedy would notch one more before the half for the Pilgrims, answered swiftly by Kari Christensen (Fr., Standish, Maine) just 42 seconds later to give Gordon the 10-2 lead at the break.
Gordon looked on pace to deliver another dominant offensive half after coming out of the gates in the second to net three quick goals (two from Jocie Knaus (Jr., Kensington, Conn.) and one from Anna Blomberg (Fr., Simsbury, Conn.)), but NEC refused to go down without a fight, posting a two-goal and three-goal run at different points in the half to go stride for stride with the Scots. Despite an evenly scored second half, though, the Scots' first half effort proved enough to secure the eight-goal win.
Leading all scorers for Gordon was Knaus with four goals, while Jordan Alexander (Jr., Portland, Maine) recorded three goals, three assists, Blomberg added three goals, one assist, and Fitzgerald contributed three goals, one assist, and seven draw controls. Coker finished the day with a pair of goals and assists, Christensen posted a single tally, and Krysti Leach (Jr., Naples, Maine) and Lisa Richardson (Fr., Reading, Mass.) each dished one assist. Netminder Danielle Maguire (Fr., Braintree, Mass.) turned away 13 in the winning effort.
The women return to TCCC action on Saturday, April 2 as they travel to face Roger Williams University at 3:30p.m.
