Box Score
In a Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) matchup today on the Quad, the Fighting Scots blanked the visiting Golden Bears of Western New England, 2-0, to remain unbeaten in conference play.
After several good chances from both teams in the early going, it was Gordon who broke the silence in the 26th minute when
Caitlin Nedde (Jr./Colchester, Vt.) broke through the area and slotted the ball back to
Kendra Woudenberg (So./Whitinsville, Mass.) on the left corner of the 18 who buried a low driven shot past WNE keeper Victoria Trezise (So./ Islip, N.Y.) to put Gordon up, 1-0.
With that score still standing midway through the second stanza, the Golden Bears nearly got the equalizer when Amanda Walusko (So./Pittsfield, Mass.) fired a shot off the crossbar after a scrum in the middle of the area, the rebound from which was cleared by
Julia Miller (New York, N.Y.) to preserve the one-goal lead. Then, in the 90th minute, the Scots got an insurance goal when
Angela Muñoz (So./East Stroudsberg, Pa.) knocked in a corner which was fielded and played by
Hannah Midwinter (Fr./Barkamsted, Conn.) to
Liz Cheesman (Sr./Winslow, Maine), who backheeled it past Trezise to extend the lead to 2-0.
Keeper
Kari Christensen (So./Standish, Maine) recorded seven saves in the shutout victory for Gordon, while Trezise turned away eight in the losing effort.
