Women's Tennis Shutout At Nichols


POMFRET, Conn. (Sept. 24) – Junior Jillian McQuiggan (Weymouth, Mass.) and senior Chelsey Miller (Salem, Conn.) claimed the second doubles flight  to help Nichols best Gordon 9-0 on Saturday in Commonwealth Coast Conference women's tennis. The tandem has won four straight matches, three at second doubles and one at first doubles.
 
The duo is also on a run in singles competition. McQuiggan picked up her fifth straight singles win with a pair of 6-0 sets in the fifth flight. Miller earned a 6-1, 6-1 victory in the fourth flight over sophomore Alyssa McCarthy (Rehoboth, Mass.) for her fourth singles triumph in a row.
 
In addition to McQuiggan, first-year Lindsay Benoit (Holden, Mass.) and junior Alexandra CIfone (Bristol, Conn.) each posted a 6-0, 6-0 victory over their counterparts in the second and third flight, respectively.
 
Sophomore Anna Dyakiv (Amsterdam, N.Y.) topped senior Kallie Garrett (Bend, Ore.) in the first flight 6-1, 6-1 and first-year Kelsey Peterson (Fairbanks, Alaska) rebounded from a 6-3 to post a 6-0 to take the sixth flight over junior Katie Madison (Longview, Wash.).
 
In doubles, the first and third flight blanked their opponents 8-0. The first flight was comprised of Dyakiv and Benoit while Cifone and Peterson played in the third flight.
 
Nichols ventures to Curry for a CCC match beginning at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Gordon hosts Western New England also on Tuesday at 3:30 p.m.
