(Poultney, Vt.) The Fighting Scots claimed a pair of road wins at the Green Mountain Invitational, besting St. Joseph's (Brooklyn) 3-0 (25-14, 25-20, 25-13) in their first match before cruising to a 3-0 win over host Green Mountain (25-14, 25-7, 25-12) to move to 9-4 overall on the season.
Gordon came out strong in the tournament's second match, jumping on St. Joseph's college early and taking the opener 25-14. The Lady Bears however would fight back and narrowly missed snatching the second set away but losing 5 of the final 6 points to end up on the wrong side of the 25-20 final score. Gordon again proved to be too much in the third, easily handily the Lady Bears, 25-13. Chelsie Clemens (Santa Barbara, Calif./Santa Barbara) had a team high eight kills, Claudia Amado (Glastonbury, Conn./Glastonbury) put together an excellent all around performance with six kills, six aces and 13 digs and setter Andrea Amado (Glastonbury, Conn./Glastonbury) directed the potent attack notching 25 assists. Kim Matthews again led the way for the Lady Bears, with seven kills and six digs. The win moved Gordon College to 8-4 overall, and St. Joseph's College fell to 3-3 on the season.
Riding that momentum, the Scots defeated Green Mountain College in dominating 3-0 fashion in match two of their day. Kara Egan led the Eagles with four kills and seven digs, as the Eagles fell to 2-6 on the season. Andrea Amado directed a balanced Fighting Scots attack with 19 assists. Gordon improved to 9-4 on the season after the two victories on the day.
