Scots Bested By Western New England, 7-2

In a Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) match at the Brigham Athletic Complex this afternoon, the Fighting Scots were bested by the visiting Golden Bears of Western New England, 7-2, to move to 1-6 overall on the year.

After falling in three straight in doubles play, the Scots were forced to work at an early deficit against a heavily talented Western New England squad. Despite Kristin Dillon (So./Exeter,  Maine) and Katie Madison (Jr./Longfield, Wash.) earning wins at Nos. 5 and 6 singles, respectively, that would be as close as the host Scots would come to making a comeback for the win. WNE's Caitlin Hughes (Sr./Springfield, Mass.) and Nikki DeSimone (Sr./Feeding Hills, Mass.) had banner days on the court, each posting 6-0, 6-0 sweeps at No. 2 and No. 3 singles, while Jess Haffner (Sr./Suffield, Conn.) ceded just one game in a 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 4.

The Scots take to the court once again on Saturday, October 1 as they travel to face the Hawks of Roger Williams at 1:00p.m. in a CCC contest. WNE, now 3-4 overall (2-4 in conference), hosts St. Joseph's (Conn.) on Thursday, September 29 at 3:30p.m.
