Scots Cross-Country Opens 2011 At Mayflower Invitational

On the road in Henniker, N.H. for the Mayflower Invitational hosted by New England College, the Fighting Scots posted strong individual and team results to kickoff the 2011 season.

On the women's side, the Scots grabbed a second place finish behind the efforts of Kelcy Rich (Sr./Hudson, Mass.), Allison Lynch (Sr./Holliston, Mass.), Emily Urquhart (Fr./White River Junction, Vt.), and Katie Hakanson-Stacy (Jr./East Longmeadow, Mass.), who came in 5th, 6th, 7th, and 9th, respectively, in a field of 60 runners. Each completed the two-mile course in under 14 minutes, with Rich, Lynch, and Urquhart coming in just over 13 minutes. Rounding out the Scots' runners for the day was Amy Holcombe (Sr./Minocqua, Wisc.), who completed the course in the 14th slot (13:52).

On the men's side, Levi Miller (Sr./Coopersburg, Pa.) was Gordon's top runner on the day, completing the 5k in 18:09 to grab a 13th place finish out of nearly 50-runner field. Fellow Scot, Brad McCollester (Fr./West Chester, Pa.), finished 17th with an 18:45 finish, while Dwight Huseland (Fr./Lebanon, N.J.) was not far behind in the 20th slot with an 18:56 result.

Said Coach Andy Shaw of the Scots' showing, "It was a great start to the season for both teams. Both the men and women had multiple runners missing today due to some early season injuries, but we hope to run our full squads for our next race."

The Scots return to action on Saturday, September 24 as they travel to Roberts Wesleyan College for the Harry. F Anderson Invitational.
