Bailey Leads Gordon Past Southern Maine

PORTLAND, Maine – Senior forward Rachael Bailey (Barre, Vt./Spaulding) scored the game-winning goal in the 49th minute to lift the Gordon College Fighting Scots to a 1-0 non-conference win over the University of Southern Maine Huskies Saturday afternoon at Deering High School's Memorial Field in Portland, Maine.

With the win, Gordon College evens out its record at 1-1.  The Huskies drop their second straight game with the loss and fall to 0-2.


Bailey received a well-played cross from freshman midfielder Hannah Midwinter (Barkhamsted, Conn./Northwestern Regional) in the six-yard box to deliver the win for her team and breaking open a 0-0 stalemate.

Gordon sophomore goalkeeper Kari Christensen (Standish, Maine/Bonny Eagle) earned the shutout victory making five saves on nine USM shots.  Southern Maine Kate Roth (Leeds, Maine/Leavitt Area) took the loss making six saves on 13 shots.

Southern Maine returns to action on Thursday at Bowdoin College, while Gordon hosts WPI on Tuesday at 4:00 p.m.
