Women's Basketball Falls To ENC, 55-47

Box Score
In their first Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) match of 2012, the Fighting Scots dropped a home court loss to the visiting Lions of Eastern Nazarene, 55-47, to move to 5-5 overall and 0-3 in conference on the season.

Both teams got off to a slow start offensively as the score was locked at 2-2 after the opening five minutes of play. After trading leads, ENC took over the lead for good at 13:20 after Kori Sorensen (Fr./Quincy, Mass.) buried a three to give the Lions the 8-6 advantage. Though the Scots would keep the score within three for the next five minutes, the Lions extended their lead to six on a jumper from behind the arc by Alexis Malloy (Jr./Washington, D.C.) and maintained an eight-point lead (26-18) heading into the break.

Carrying that momentum into the second, ENC widened the gap by netting the first five points of the half to leave the host Scots trailing 31-18 following just two minutes of play. The Lions would take their biggest lead of the afternoon at the 12:25 mark when Shardae Brown (Jr./Waterbury, Conn.) converted a three-point play to make it a 36-21 ballgame. Gordon rallied on the offensive, however, for an impressive 17-6 run behind standout shooting from Leanna Tallamy (Fr./Wantage, N.J.) and Brooke Kratche (Fr./Chagrin Falls, Ohio) to bring the game within four with just over four minutes to play. Following another ENC surge that created an 11-point gap, the Scots once again brought the game to within four with 40 ticks left on the clock. That proved as close as they would get to the comeback, though, as ENC was solid from the line down the stretch to ice the eight-point win.

Tallamy led the effort for Gordon with 19 points and seven rebounds while Kratche finished with 13 points and nine rebounds and Aly Towle (Fr./Rochester, N.H.) chipped in seven points and six assists. ENC's win was paced by Sorensen who buried 20 points in the outing, while Malloy had 13 points and nine boards and Brown posted eight points and eight rebounds.

The Scots return to the floor on Tuesday, January 10 as they travel to Biddeford, Maine to face the CCC's University of New England at 5:30p.m. ENC, now 5-5 overall and 2-1 in the CCC, will travel to Newport, R.I. to take on Salve Regina on the same day at 5:00p.m.
