Scots Have Strong Showing In WNE Invite


On the road for the Western New England Invitational today in Springfield, Mass., Gordon women's cross country placed fourth of 23 teams while the men placed ninth of 21 on the trails. 

Leanne Beedle (Fr./Bethany, Conn.) was the top finisher for the Fighting Scots, completing the 5k course in 20:04.15, good enough for 14th out of 212 runners. Teammates Samantha Goedeke (Sr./Villa Park, Ill.) and  Katie Hakanson-Stacy (Sr./East Longmeadow, Mass.) came in next for the Scots at 31st and 32nd with times of 20:36 and 20:38, respectively. 

 Mary Beth Gray (Jr./Gaffney, S.C.) and Mariah Geiger (Fr./Londonderry, N.H.) were also top 50 finishers for the Scots at 20:59 and 21:01

Westfield State took the top finish with 41 points total while Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) opponents Salve Regina (64) and Roger Williams (136) finished ahead of the Scots (158) with Endicott (163) falling just behind. 

On the men's side, freshman Andrew Swanson (Lexington, Mass.) once again finished first of all Scots and 26th overall in the 204-runner field with a 27:58 time on the 8k course with teammate Wes Nelson (Fr./Charlton, Mass.) coming in ten spots behind with a 28:21. Andrew Kwiatkowski (Jr./Yorktown Heights, N.Y.) finished the day not long after Nelson with a time of 28:43.

Babson earned the top team finish on the day with 56 points, while Gordon fell in at ninth with 261. Other CCC teams at the match, all finishing behind Gordon, included Roger Williams, Western New England, Salve Regina, and Eastern Nazarene. 

Next up for the Scots is the CCC Championship on October 27.
