QUINCY, Mass.- The Fighting Scots earned their 11th shutout of the season with a 3-0 Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) win over the Eastern Nazarene women’s soccer team at Veterans Memorial Stadium today on ENC's Homecoming. The victory lifts the Fighting Scots to 14-2 on the season and 7-1 in league play to maintain the top spot in the standings. The Lions drop to 8-7-2 overall and 5-2-1 in the CCC with the loss.
Gordon netted an early goal to grab a 1-0 edge in the early stages of the match when Caitlin Nedde (Sr./Colchester, Vt.) headed home a service from Karina Scavo (Sr./Mount Sinai, N.Y.) for her 14th tally of the year.
The Fighting Scots went into the halftime break leading 1-0 while the Lions held an 8-4 advantage in shots.
Nedde added her second goal of the contest in the 81st minute to stretch the visitors’ lead to 2-0 after latching onto the end of a pass by Scavo over the defense and firing a shot past the Lions’ goalkeeper.
Gordon tacked on its third marker of the game in the 86th minute as Taylor McSherry (So./Wolcott, Conn.) notched her eighth tally of the season, knocking a loose ball inside the penalty area into an open net following a break in by Olivia Balloveras (So./Freeport, N.Y.).
Eastern Nazarene finished the contest with 12 shots while the Fighting Scots registered nine.
Maleesa Santos (Colonie, N.Y.) paced the Lions with three shots in the game while Morgan Goodney (East Greenwich, R.I.) and Jules Speno (Hopewell Junction, N.Y.) recorded a pair of attempts.
Freshman Kristen Farley (Westminster, Mass.) stopped two shots on the day in goal for the home side. Kari Christensen (Jr./Standish, Maine) made five saves between the pipes for Gordon.
The Lions wrap up the regular season with a key match Oct. 23 against the University of New England at Veterans Memorial Stadium while the Scots travel to face CCC opponent Western New England on Oct. 24 at 3:30p.m.
