Senior forward
Caitlin Nedde (Colchester, Vt.) tallied a hat trick to lift the Fighting Scots to a 3-1 win over Western New England University in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Quarterfinal action today on Gordon's Quad.
The win improves the Scots to 16-2 overall on the season and advances them to the CCC Semifinals scheduled for Tuesday, Oct. 30.
Nedde recorded her first goal of the day in the 26th minute after beating WNE keeper Briana Kubik (Fr./Blandford, Mass.) to the back post on a double assist from forward
Taylor McSherry (So./Wolcott, Conn.) and midfielder
Jamie Breton (Fr./Concord, N.H.) for the 1-0 lead. Then, just 33 seconds later, Nedde flicked in her second tally off a cross from the left side from midfielder
Kendra Woudenberg (Jr./Whitinsville, Mass.) to put the Scots up by two.
That score held until the 52nd minute when the WNE's Emma Norden (Fr./Belchertown, Mass.) headed home a corner from Rebecca Mercieri (Fr./East Longmeadow, Mass.) to the upper left 90 of the Scots' cage to make it a one-goal game.
Despite outshooting the Golden Bears 16-5 in the half, the Scots were unable to find the net again until the 85th minute when Nedde collected a clear from defender
Rachel Ashley (Sr./Lowville, N.Y.), dribbled through the WNE defense, and slotted a ball to the left post past Kubik to ice the win for the host Scots.
Starting defenders
Julia Miller (Jr./New York, N.Y.), Krysti Leach (Sr./Naples, Maine), and
Shelby Palafox (Fr./Lexington, Mass.) were solid in the backfield to keep WNE's offense at bay, while keeper
Kari Christensen (Jr./Standish, Maine) recorded three saves for the win.
Kubik rounded out the day with eight saves for the Golden Bears, who end their season with an 8-11-1 overall record.
The Scots await the conclusion of the University of New England and Eastern Nazarene quarterfinal match to determine who they will host on Tuesday.
