The Fighting Scots closed out their 2012 season today at the NCAA New England Regional hosted by Westfield State, the women placing 30th of 51 teams and the men 34th of 50 in a field of the region's top programs.
For the women,
Leanne Beedle (Fr./Bethany, Conn.) did as she has done all season long, coming in first of all Scots and 150th out of 367 total runners on the 6k course with a 24:38.09. Teammate
Thais Ziegenhals (Jr./Essex, Mass.) and
Samantha Goedeke (Sr./Villa Park, Ill.) were the second and third runners for Gordon at 167th and 172nd, respectively, with 24:57.86 and 25:01.33 results, helping lead the Scots to their 2:05:00.47 overall time.
MIT won the day overall, placing three runners in the top 10 to score 58 points with a 1:49:49.77.
On the men's side,
Andrew Swanson (Fr./Lexington, Mass.), like Beedle, finished out his rookie season as the top finishing Scot and 190th finisher overall, turning in a 28:37.19 on the 8k course. Following not far behind were teammates A
ndrew Kwiatkowski (Jr./Yorktown Heights, N.Y.) and
Wes Nelson (Fr./Charlton, Mass.), who came in back-to-back at 201st (28:48.20) and 202nd (28:49.82) out of the 351 runners.
Coby Horowitz of Bowdoin was the top runner on the day with a 24:51.36, while Middlebury claimed the overall win with a 2:06:31.47 time.
