Vikings Sail To 61-32 Win Over Scots

Box Score
The Vikings of Salem State University sailed to a 61-32 win over the Fighting Scots in non-conference women's basketball action tonight in Gordon's Bennett Athletic Center. The win improves the Vikings to a perfect 3-0, while the Scots drop to 2-1 overall on the year.

Rachel Ledbetter (Fr./Dracut, Mass.), Sandra Lanier (Sr./Groton, Mass.), and Bridget Dullea (Sr./Peabody, Mass.) led the Vikings to the win with 10 points apeice.

After a Scots' turnover in the opening posession, the Vikings took the lead for good as Dullea opened scoring with a layup from a Rachael Carter (So./Merrimack, N.H.) pass. The pair combined for seven points before Clancey Adams (Jr./Simsbury, Conn.) broke the Scots' silence with a three after four minutes of play.

The rest of the half proved more of the same, however, as the Vikings only allowed nine more Gordon points, shooting 64 percent from behind the arc to head into the break with a 37-13 lead.

Despite a tighter second half, the damage had been done as Salem State pushed the lead to as many as 33 with just over four minutes remaining. Turnovers plagued the Scots' play, and the Vikings capitalized for 24 points off Gordon's lost opportunities.

In the 61-32 loss Gordon's Brooke Kratche (So./Chagrin Falls, Ohio) posted eight points, six rebounds, and two steals.

Supporting Ledbetter, Lanier, and Dullea was Katherine Hutchinson (Fr./Topsfield, Mass.), who grabbed 10 boards for the Vikings.

The Scots return to play on Wednesday, Nov. 28 as they travel to Western New England for a 7:30p.m. start. Salem State plays host to Babson on Sunday, Nov. 25 at 2:00p.m.
