Vikings Sail Past Scots In Non-Conference Twinbill

Box Score (game one)
Box Score (game two)

In a non-conference doubleheader against Salem State University today, the Vikings sailed to a pair of wins to drop the Scots to 4-19 overall on the season. Salem improves to 20-8 with the sweep.

The Vikings started their day out with gusto in the top of the first of game one, as Jenn Toussaint (Fr./Reading, Mass.) stepped up to crush a two-run shot over the left field fence and Alyssa Bryan (Jr./Stoneham, Mass.) followed with a solo shot of her own in the next at-bat to lift Salem to the early 3-0 lead. Then, after three and a half scoreless innings, Salem struck again for six runs in the top of the fifth behind a Bryan two-RBI triple, a Sarra Bergeron (Jr./Methuen, Mass.) two-RBI single, a Stephanie Scheini (Fr./Boxborough, Mass.) RBI single, and a passed ball run to make it a 9-0 game in the fifth. Though Gordon earned one back in the bottom half of the inning after Kendall Bukuras (So./North Falmouth, Mass.) ripped a triple into right field and was later brought home on an RBI from Skylar Bareford (So.Stonington, Conn.), the comeback effort would stop there as Bryan closed out the remaining Gordon batters to claim the win for Salem.

Bryan improved to 10-2 with the win, allowing just two hits and one run in a complete game (5.0 innings). Emily Borden (Sr./Groton, Conn.) is credited with the loss for Gordon.

After a scoreless first inning in the nightcap, Salem opened the scoring with a pair of runs in the top of the second on a Christina Cipriani (Jr./Peabody, Mass.) RBI double and a Paige Flemming (So./Methuen, Mass.) RBI to leave the Scots trailing 2-0 in the early going. From there the Vikings didn't look back, plating another five runs in the top of four followed by two more in the top of five to put the game out of reach for the Scots.

Cipriani paced the effort for Salem going 3-3 with four RBIs, while Lauren Garchinsky (Jr./Saugus, Mass.), Flemming, and Bergeron recorded an RBI apiece in the win.

The Scots travel to Western New England for a Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) doubleheader on Saturday, April 14 beginning at 12:00p.m., while Salem is back at it on Monday, April 16 at Westfield State.
