Scots' Offense Dominates In Non-Conference Wins Over Fisher

Box Score (game one)
Box Score (game two)

Looking to snap a 10-game skid, the Fighting Scots did so with authority today against visiting Fisher College, overwhelming the Falcons on offense to capture a pair of five-inning wins in the non-conference doubleheader, 18-1 and 15-1.

The Scots took control at the outset as Liz Cheesman (Sr./Winslow, Maine) doubled to plate two in the bottom of the first and Emily Borden (Sr./Groton, Conn.) homered on the next at-bat to give the Scots the early 4-0 lead. After holding the Falcons to just one hit and no runs in the second, Gordon added to the lead by two in the bottom half of the inning on a Kara Pepper (Fr./Wyckoff, N.J.) RBI single and a Shannon Dodds (So./Audubon, Pa.) run off an error at center.

Hoping to rally in return, the Falcons broke their silence and got one run back in the top of the third when Demi Bourous (So./West Islip, N.Y.) reached on a fielder's choice to score Brittany Calderon (Sr./Rockland, Mass.) from third to make it a 6-1 game. The Scots responded immediately as Rachel Ryder (Fr./Telford, Pa.) singled for two RBIs, two runs scored on a Fisher error, and Kelly Beardslee (So./Thomaston, Conn.) singled to bring in two for a total of six runs  scored in the bottom of the inning. That effort was followed by another six runs in the bottom of the fourth when Cheesman singled to score Grace Northgraves (Fr./Natick, Mass.) from third and Borden cleared the bases with a grand slam to right to secure the commanding 18-1 victory.

Skylar Bareford (So./Stonington, Conn.) earned the win on the mound for Gordon, going a full five innings with three strikeouts and just one earned run.

Game two followed a similar storyline for the Scots, who jumped out of the gates to tally seven runs in the bottom of the opening inning behind single RBIs from Pepper, Gabriel Roberts (Fr./Center Conway, N.H.), and Kerry McPartlan (Sr./Yonkers, N.Y.) and a Hannah Lawrence (Sr./Somerset, Mass.) base-clearing grand slam. Then, following a scoreless inning and a half, the Scots were back at it on the offensive with another six runs in the third and two in the fourth to carry a substantial 15-0 lead into the fifth. And though the Falcons did get on the board when Bourous doubled to score Michelle Fabiano (So./Nashua, N.H.) from third, the Scots' Beardslee closed out the game in five to help Gordon complete the sweep.

Lawrence finished the outing with five RBIs and the win on the mound, while Pepper went 2-4 with three RBIs, Borden 1-2 with two RBIs, and Cheesman, Roberts, Bareford, McPartlan, and Samantha Huntington (Fr./Pike, N.H.) recorded an RBI apiece.

The Scots look to continue their winning ways tomorrow as they travel to take on non-conference Regis College in a doubleheader beginning at 4:00p.m. Fisher hopes to rebound on the road at Point Park on the same day at 12:00p.m.
