The Fighting Scots dropped to 0-3 overall, 0-1 in conference play after dropping a 9-0 decision to the visiting Bison of Nichols College today at Gordon's Brigham Athletic Complex. The win improves Nichols to 3-3, 1-0 in the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC).
The Bison wasted no time getting ahead in doubles play, as Jillian McQuiggan (Sr./Weymouth, Mass.) and Alexandra Cifone (Sr./Bristol, Conn.) at No.1 and Anna Dyakiv (Jr./Amsterdam, N.Y.) and Lindsay Benoit (So./Holden, Mass.) at No. 2 cruised to 8-0 and 8-1 wins, respectively. The Scots had their best showing of the day at No. 3 doubles as
Hannah Damon (So./Mystic, Conn.) and
Rachel Kauffman (So./Harleysville, Pa.) grabbed four games off Erin Rivers (Jr./Bristol, Conn.) and Michelle Keklik (Fr./Stratford, Conn.), but in the end the Gordon duo ceded the match 8-4 to give Nichols the 3-0 advantage going into singles play.
Nichols carried that momentum into the latter half of the match, never allowing any of the Scots more than two games per set in each of the six singles matches en route to 9-0 sweep.
The Scots look for their elusive first win as they host Rhode Island College in non-conference play on Thursday, Sept. 13 at 3:30p.m., while Nichols returns to the court on Sept. 14 at 3:30p.m. as they host Wheaton College.
