Box Score
Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Women's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week
Caitlin Nedde (Sr./Colchester, Vt.) tallied the game-winner in the 76th minute to lift the Fighting Scots to a 1-0 home victory today over the Vikings of Salem State on Gordon's Quad.
With the win the Scots remain unbeaten and unscored upon in five games so far this season.
The Vikings threatened to take the early lead in the seventh minute when Casey Connolly (Jr./Nahant, Mass.) fired a shot from the top of the 18 on Gordon's frame, but keeper
Kari Christensen (Jr./Standish, Maine) made a diving save to clear the ball to safety and keep the game scoreless. Then in the 33rd minute, a takedown in the box by the Salem defense gave the Scots a chance for the go-ahead goal, but Salem netminder Rachel Ledbetter (Fr./Dracut, Mass.) derailed the attempt to keep the Scots off the board and preserve the 0-0 deadlock heading into the half.
That silence held until Nedde dribbled from midfield past the Salem defense and roofed Ledbetter to the far right post for the winning tally and her fourth goal of the season.
Gordon's shutout was preserved by Christensen (five saves) and a stingy back line led by
Julia Miller (Jr./New York, N.Y.),
Krysti Leach (Sr./Naples, Maine),
Rachel Ashley (Sr./Lowville, N.Y.), and
Shelby Palafox (Fr./Lexington, Mass.).
Ledbetter turned away 14 shots in the loss for the Vikings, who move to 2-2 overall on the season.
The Scots open conference play on Saturday, Sept. 15 as they travel to take on Salve Regina University at 12:00p.m. Salem State travels to face Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts on the same day at 1:00p.m.
