In non-conference women's tennis action today at the Brigham Athletic Complex, the Fighting Scots surrendered a 6-3 decision to visiting Rhode Island College to move to 0-4 overall on the year.
In doubles play, RIC's Sadie Campanella (Fr./Chepacet, R.I.) and Janice Wang (So./Branchburg, N.J.) took an 8-2 win at No. 1 and Chelsea Brown (So./Wallingford, Conn.) and Tressa Cannata (Fr./Cranston, R.I.) an 8-4 win at No. 2 before the Gordon duo of
Hannah Damon (So./Mystic, Conn.) and
Rachel Kauffman (So./Harleysville, Pa.) picked up an 8-6 win at No. 3 to make it a 2-1 match heading into singles action.
Though senior captain
Sarah Hickey (Stony Brook, N.Y.) battled to a close 6-4, 7-5 victory at No. 2 singles and
Eva Kenna (So./Harvard, Mass.) cruised to a 6-3, 6-1 win at No. 5, the Scots would come no closer to the overall match win as the Anchormen took each of the remaining singles matches in straight sets to secure their first win of the season (1-4).
Gordon will travel to face conference opponent Western New England on Saturday, Sept. 15 at 12:00p.m., while RIC will host UMass Boston on the same day at 1:00p.m.
