The Fighting Scots took to the road for their second meet of the 2012 season today, hitting the trails against some of New England's finest at the UMass Dartmouth Invitational.
Andrew Swanson (Fr./Lexington, Mass.) was the top finisher for the Scots for the second consecutive race, finishing 138th of 293 runners on the 8k course with a 27:40 time. Teammate
Andrew Kwiatkowski (Jr./Yorktown Heights, N.Y.) was the second to come home for Gordon and the 154th of the race with a 28:01 finish, followed closely behind by
Wes Nelson (Fr./Charlton, Mass.) at 173rd with a 28:25.
As a team the men placed 27th out of 39 with 808 points and a total time of 2:22.39. Securing the first place team finish were the Engineers of MIT, who posted 63 points with a 2:06.50 total time.
On the women's side, rookie
Leanne Beedle (Fr./Bethany, Conn.) finished first of all Scots and 66th in the 293-runner field, completing the 5k course in 19:58, while
Katie Hakanson-Stacy (Sr./East Longmeadow, Mass.) finished second for Gordon at 20:57 (149th).
The women rounded out the day sitting at 29th out of 38 scoring teams with a 1:46:07. Similar to their men's squad, MIT's women also earned the top team finish on the day, placing five runners in the top 10 en route to a 1:32:50 finish.
The Scots are back at it on Saturday, Sept. 22 as they travel to Elms College. The women will kickoff at 11:00a.m. while the men are set for 12:00p.m.
