The Fighting Scots picked up their first win of the season today on the road at Western New England, cruising past the host Golden Bears, 7-2, to move to 1-2 in the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC), 1-4 overall.
Gordon swept through doubles play thanks to a comfortable 8-2 win by
Eva Kenna (So./Harvard, Mass.) and
Rachel Kauffman (So./Harleysville, Pa.) over Kelly Byrnes (Fr./Berlin, Conn.) and Juliette Cormier (Fr./Leominster, Mass.) at No. 3.
Lily Drescher (Fr./Reading, Mass.) and
Sarah Hickey (Sr./Stony Brook, N.Y.) also contributed an 8-5 win over Linda Mustafa (Sr./Chicopee, Mass.) and Kelsey Grode (Jr./Fairview, Pa.) at No. 1 and
Jessie Dupre (Sr./North Billerica, Mass.) and
Hannah Damon (So./Mystic, Conn.) an 8-6 win over Alysha Lesieur (Sr./Hudson, N.H.) and Valerie Conway (So./Cumberland, R.I.) at No. 2.
Up 3-0 with momentum on their side, the Scots went on to claim four of the six singles matches to clinch the overall victory. Hickey was once again solid in individual play, taking a straight set (6-3, 6-3) win over Conway at No. 2. Dupre, Kenna, and Damon had tougher roads as each had to battle through tiebreaker sets to victory, Dupre winning 6-3, 4-6, 7-5 over Lesieur, Kenna winning 6-3, 6-7 (5), 6-1 over Lindsey Brudvig (Jr./Plattsburg, N.Y.), and Damon winning 6-1, 3-6, 6-4 over Michele Magliulo (So./Manorville, N.Y.).
The Scots return to their home court on Monday, Sept. 17 to host non-conference Suffolk at 4:00p.m.
