Scots Sweep ENC For Second CCC Win


QUINCY, Mass.- The Eastern Nazarene College women’s tennis team dropped an 8-0 decision to Gordon Thursday afternoon. The Lions fall to 2-7 overall and 0-5 in the Commonwealth Coast Conference with the loss. The Fighting Scots improve to 3-6 on the year and 2-3 in league matches with the win.

Gordon swept the doubles flights to hold a 3-0 advantage.

Elise Sleeper (Sanford, Maine) and Samantha Jones (Wareham, Mass.) were edged 8-6 at the top slot by Lily Drescher (Fr./Reading, Mass.) and Sarah Hickey (Sr./Stony Brook, N.Y.). Sharon Lemire (Lyndeboro, N.H.) and Kathryn McLaughlin (Huntington Station, N.Y.) also suffered an 8-6 setback at the No. 2 position to Jessie Dupre (Sr./North Billerica, Mass.) and Eva Kenna (So./Harvard, Mass.). The visitors claimed an 8-2 win at the third spot as Hannah Damon (So./Mystic, Conn.) and Rachel Kauffman (So./Harleysville, Pa.) topped Tressa Burrello (Herkimer, N.Y.) and Kelsey Waddle (Olathe, Kan.).

The Fighting Scots picked up their third victory of the season with five wins in singles action.

Lemire dropped a narrow decision at the No. 1 position to Gordon’s Drescher. The junior conceded the first set 6-3 and bounced back to prevail 7-5 in the second. Lemire was edged 12-10 in a third-set super-breaker.

Sleeper absorbed a 6-1, 6-3 loss at the second spot and Jones fell 6-1, 6-1 at the third slot. McLaughlin endured a 6-3, 6-2 loss to Damon at the No. 4 singles match. Gordon’s Muriel Renfort (Fr./Brockton, Mass.) defeated Waddle 6-0, 6-2 at the sixth spot to cap off the victory for the Fighting Scots.

Eastern Nazarene returns to action September 29 as they travel to take on Endicott, while the Scots host Salve Regina on the same day at 12p.m.
