Box Score
Tonight in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) action in Gordon's Bennett Athletic Center, the Fighting Scots fell to crosstown rivals, the Gulls of Endicott College, 45-39, to stay winless in league play at 0-8 (2-13 overall). The win boosts the Gulls to 10-4 overall and 6-1 in the CCC.
Leading the charge for Endicott was junior Jennifer White (Lisbon, N.H.) with 16 points and six rebounds while Kayleen Whall (So./Foxboro, Mass.) added nine points and 11 boards in the victory. Overall the Gulls shot 30 percent from the floor, struggling from behind the arc, shooting just 14.3 percent (2-14).
The game started off slowly with niether team able to build any momentum throughout the first half. The Gulls held their largest lead of the half with 5:40 remaining after a bucket from Kelsey Cuddy (Fr./Madison, Conn.) put them up 13-9. The half ended, however, with the Scots on top after junior
Skylar Bareford (Stonington, Conn.) drained a three to give Gordon the 15-13 advantage heading into the locker room.
In the opening seven minutes of the second half the Scots found the momentum they needed as they went on an 11-6 run to give them their biggest advantage of the game, 26-19, behind nine points from
Brooke Kratche (So./Chagrin Falls, Ohio).
The game was far from over for this relentless Endicott offense, as White, Whall, and teammate Jen McBrien (Sr./Medfield, Mass.) combined for the next 11 points to tie the game at 30-30 with just over nine minutes to play, with White scoring the Gulls' only buckets from behind the arc.
The Scots continued to battle, pushing their lead back to four points momentarily, but a layup from Whall following a Gordon turnover gave Endicott its first lead of the half, 35-34, with 5:03 on the clock.
The lead would be traded once more on the night before conversion from the line and a tightened defensive effort from the Gulls would put the game out of reach for the Scots.
The Scots were led by Kratche tallying her fifth double-double with a game-high 19-points along with 12 rebounds and three steals. Teammate
Lauren Kranyak (Jr./Locust Grove, Va.) notched an 11-point, 14-rebound, double-double of her own.
Gordon takes to the court again on Saturday, January 19 as they travel to Nichols to take on the Bison at 2p.m., while Endicott hosts UNE on Thursday, January 17 at 5:30p.m.
