Scots Edged By Rangers In Non-Conference Matchup, 59-52

Box Score
Squaring off against the Rangers of non-conference Drew University today in Madison, N.J., the Fighting Scots were edged by their hosts, 59-52, to move to 2-8 overall on the season. The Rangers improve to 4-8 with the win.

Gordon junior forward Lauren Kranyak (Locust Grove, Va.) posted an impressive 20-point, 14-rebound double-double in the loss, while sophomore forward Brooke Kratche (Chagrin Falls, Ohio) led all scorers on the day with 23 points to go with eight boards to help guide the effort.

The Rangers received double digit points from Erin Howard (Fr./Tolland, Conn.), Jennifer Mateo (Sr./Union City, N.J.), and Courtney Stephens (Fr./Pikesville, Md.), who booked 16, 14, and 11, respectively, to lead Drew to its fourth win of the year.

The first half featured a close-fought matchup with six lead changes and five ties before the Rangers headed into the locker room carrying a 31-27 lead behind 46 percent shooting from the floor.

Drew stretched that lead to nine following a Whitney Mackay (Sr./Suffield, Conn.) layup on the opening possession of the second and a Mateo three just a minute later, but the Scots battled back to overtake the lead at the 14 minute mark after a layup in the paint from Kratche. Though that lead would trade one more time in the next minute and a half, Drew took control with 10 minutes to go and never looked back, maintaining control of the advantage the rest of the way en route to the seven-point victory.

The Scots return to conference action on Saturday, Jan. 5 at 1 p.m. on the road at Eastern Nazarene, while the Rangers travel to Susquehanna on the same day for a 2 p.m. start.
