Golden Bears Overtake Scots In CCC Action, 68-34

Box Score
Hosting the Golden Bears of Western New England University in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) women's basketball action tonight in Gordon's Bennett Athletic Center, the Fighting Scots faltered at the hands of their hosts, 68-34, to drop to 2-15 overall (0-10 in conference) on the season. With the victory WNE improves to 9-8 overall, 6-4 in the CCC.

Senior center Elena Radzikowski (Medway, Mass.) led all scorers on the night with 15 points in 24 minutes of action, while freshman guard Chelsea Vujs (Berlin, Conn.) recorded her fifth double-double of the season with 11 points, 10 rebounds. As a team the Golden Bears shot 50 percent from the floor with 30 points in the paint, 24 points off the bench, and 18 points off turnovers.

The Scots were led by junior forward Lauren Kranyak (Locust Grove, Va.) with a 12-point, 10-rebound double-double, sophomore forward Brooke Kratche (Chagrin Falls, Ohio) with nine points, six boards, and junior guard Skylar Bareford (Stonington, Conn.) with nine points, four boards.

Bareford got the scoring going for the night with a baseline three off a Kratche assist on the opening possession, but the Golden Bears responded over the next five minutes with a 14-0 run behind points from each of their starters. Kranyak then buried a layup, grabbed a steal off WNE's Nicole Daly (Jr./Massapequa, N.Y.), and converted a three-point play at the other end of the court to bring the game back within six (14-8) at 13:15. The Golden Bears closed out the half on an offensive tear, however, outpacing the Scots 18-8 behind eight points from Vujs to carry a 32-16 advantage into the locker room.

Though Kratche recorded all nine of her points and five of her six rebounds in the second, the visitors pushed their lead all the way to 37 at 2:14 thanks to 10 points from Radzikowski before closing out the game with the 24-point victory.

The Scots look to stop their skid on Saturday, January 26 at Curry as they tipoff with the Colonels at 1 p.m. The Golden Bears will host the CCC's Nichols College on the same day at 1 p.m.
