Swim Teams Kick Off Season at Roger Williams Invite

BRISTOL, R.I.—The Gordon Swim teams kicked off their 2013-14 season with a bang in an all-CCC event at Roger Williams University on Saturday afternoon. The men grabbed a second-place team finish; while the women finished the day in third place overall. The host Hawks took first place in both the men's and women's competition.

The Fighting Scots began the day with a third-place finish in the Women's 200 Yard Medley Relay. Gordon's "A" team was brought home thanks to strong finishes from Emily Sneddon and Nicole St. Martin.

Also a part of the top medley team, Emily David, was the fourth finisher in the 200 Yard Freestyle race later in the day—earning the Scots five points toward their team score. David would add more points to her total in the 100 Yard Freestyle event by tapping the wall second, just seconds behind the leader.

Gordon's best performance on the women's side came in the 200 Yard Freestyle Relay, where St. Martin, Sneddon, David and Katherine Zablocki beat UNE and Western New England for a second-place finish behind Roger Williams' top team.

On the men's side, Daniel Fauber kicked off the scoring for the Scots with a top finish in the 200 Yard Freestyle over Roger Williams' top two swimmers Isaac Bourque and Sam Root. Fauber continued his strong day in the 100 Yard Butterfly with another first-place finish, edging out UNE's Ross Hanley. Fauber set a new meet record in the event, beating the old record by nearly two seconds.

The Scots performed well in the longest event of the day, placing two swimmers in the top three finishers of the 500 Yard Freestyle.  Andrew Lewis finished second with a time of 5:31.13 and Dean Drukker finished just three seconds after Lewis for third place.

Gordon also grabbed two second-place finishes in relays to round out their scoring.

The Scots have two weeks off before their first home meet of the season with Simmons and Elms on November 2 at 1:00 p.m.
