Box Score
Sophomore forward
Lauren Hayes (Wantage, N.J.) tucked home a rebound in the 103
rd minute to lift the Fighting Scots to a 1-0 double overtime win over the visiting Nor'easters of the University of New England in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) women's soccer action today on Gordon's Quad.
The win extends the Scots' streak to four games and puts them at 15-2-0 overall and a perfect 7-0-0 in conference. UNE drops to 8-7-1 overall, 4-2-1 in the CCC.
Sophomore keeper
McKenzie Dion (North Grafton, Mass.) recorded her sixth shutout and 12
th win of the season with a six-save effort, while UNE's Brielle Robinson (Fr./Monson, Mass.) had a standout day in net for the Nor'easters with 11 saves.
Though both sides had quality scoring opportunities over the course of regulation play, Dion and Robinson and their respective back lines did their part to keep the silence in the match and force extra time.
With neither team able to find the net in the first extra frame, the Scots got their break when senior captain midfielder
Kendra Woudenberg (Whitinsville, Mass.) crossed a ball into the box from the left side to senior forward
Taylor McSherry (Wolcott, Conn.) who one-timed it from 12 yards out. That shot proved too much for Robinson as she coughed up a rebound just off the goal line to a running-on Hayes who poked in her seventh of the season for the win.
The Scots are on the road for the remainder of the regular season, traveling to face CCC foe Roger Williams on Saturday, October 26 and crosstown rival Endicott on Tuesday, October 29. The Nor'easters will look to halt a two-game skid as they host Endicott this Saturday.
