Meet Results
SPRINGFIELD, Mass.—For the third weekend in a row, the Gordon College Women's Swimming team battled their way to a victory. The Scots have gone 3-1 in their individual meets for the first time in recent memory, including a 149-107 victory over host Western New England on Saturday.
The Scots traveled without their male counterparts for the first time in 2013 and the ladies shined in their first away meet in nearly a month. Gordon has been rewarded for their hard work in the practice pool during their recent stretch of meets and that continued with a dominating performance over their hosts.
Saturday's meet started off with an interesting twist as Gordon's "B" squad put together an impressive result in the 200 Yard Medley Relay, beating not only WNE's top relay team, but also their teammate's top squad. The team of Cassie Wetzell, Sarah Salcone, Julie Lee and Paige Hammaker, bested the Gordon "A" team by nearly eight seconds.
Nicole St. Martin claimed the first individual victory of the day for Gordon in the 200 Yard Freestyle, finishing eight seconds ahead of WNE's Allison Ryan. Emily David also added a personal victory in the fourth event of the day, the 50 Yard Backstroke with a time of 30.12.
Katherine Zablocki won the 50 Yard Breaststroke for the third week in a row, while Paige Hammaker returned to the top spot in the 50 Yard Freestyle race, finishing a fraction of a second ahead of Chelsea Miemiec of WNE.
Erin Walker pulled away over the final few laps in the 500 Yard Freestyle with a time of 6:20.14. Emily Boyd finished third in the race for the Scots just 21 seconds behind Walker's pace.
Gordon ended the day with a victory in the 100 Yard IM by Emily Sneddon and an "A" team win in the 200 Yard Freestyle Relay.
The Scots have two weeks of preparation time for an away meet against Bridgewater State on December 3 at 6 p.m.
